Grace Wins Region 3A/AA Semifinal Over Hixson

  • Tuesday, October 21, 2014
The Grace Academy girls soccer team scored two goals in each half Tuesday night in their 4-0 region 3A/AA semifinal win over Hixson.

The Golden Eagles will advance to the region final to face Boyd-Buchanan.  It will be the third time they have played the Lady Bucs this year.  Grace lost 3-2 and 1-0 in their pervious match ups.
Grace's first half goals were scored by Emily Clark and Elizabeth Mouw.  Kayla Bibbs and Danielle Shumaker scored the second half goals.

Grace head coach Gretchen Hammel  was proud of her team but said she will need to see more out of them on Thursday.

"I am always proud of them and was so glad to get the win,"   Hammel said. "We showed composure when we needed to and we were able to put some goals away.  Hixson showed a lot of improvement but I was proud of our defense.  The back line played awesome.  I still feel like we can improve and hopefully we will come out a little harder on Thursday."

Hixson's Samantha Green pressured the Grace defense several times in the second half but was unable to score.

Grace's Rachel Beard earned the shutout in the goal.
