Leonard James Owens, 86, of Dalton, GA, died on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. 

Leonard was born May 3, 1928 in Scottsboro, AL to the late Albert and Ella Mae Owens; and was also preceded in death by his wife, Edna Idella Owens; sons, Billy Jean and David Owens; son-in-law, Benny Chavers; sister, Dolly Bavern.

He was retired from J & J Industries and a long time of selling produce in the community.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Vera Owens of Chatsworth, GA, Charles and Katie Owens of Tunnel Hill, GA, Larry Owens, Bruce Owens of Dalton, GA and Lonnie Owens of Cohutta, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Marie and Donald Gentry of Spring Place, GA, Jane Patterson of Dalton, GA and Tina Chavers of Summerville, GA; brother, Billy Owens of Springs City, TN; 23 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Leonard James Owens will be held Sunday, November 2 at 3 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Richard Pack officiating. Interment will follow in the United Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 2-9 p.m. on Saturday, November 1. 

Arrangements are by locally owned and operated Ponders Melrose Chapel.
