Jones Named 2014 Outstanding Communication Educator

  • Tuesday, October 7, 2014

The Tennessee Communication Association has named Debra Jones its 2014 Outstanding Communication Educator of the Year.

Ms. Jones, an associate professor of speech in the Humanities and Fine Arts Division at Chattanooga State Community College, came to Chattanooga State in 1995. Majoring in speech communication, she earned her Bachelor’s degree at Mississippi State University and Master’s degree at Texas Christian University.

Each year, TCA recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution to communication education in the state of Tennessee, usually a teaching member of TCA.

A presidentially appointed committee reviews the nominees and selects the winner who is formally recognized at the awards luncheon during its annual meeting. One of the main reasons that the committee selected Ms. Jones was attributed to her innovation in developing online speech courses at Chattanooga State.
