December Elder Scholars Meeting Is Dec. 9

  • Monday, December 1, 2014

The December Elder Scholars meeting will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 9, in the Lookout Mountain Room of the University Center. The speakers will be a panel consisting of individuals representing the following faiths: Mormon, Jehovah Witness, Islam, and the Free Thinkers. Each will make a five-minute presentation of the tenets of their faith, and then a five-minute description of how their faith does or doesn't celebrate Christmas. Then the panel will take questions from the audience.

The speakers will be Mark Mendenhall, a professor in the UTC School of Business speaking about the Mormon faith, Marshall Baker, a minister representing the Jehovah Witness faith, Hammad El-Ameen, president of the Understanding Islam Da'awah Foundation speaking about the Mormon faith, and Nick Baker who is a student and will represent the Free Thinkers. The moderator of the panel will be Jane Elmore.

The meeting starts at 1 p.m. Different from previous years, parking is free only in Lot 7 which is at Douglas and East Fifth Street near the Maclellan Gym, or across East Fifth Street from Lot 7 at the Fifth Street Parking Garage (the high rise parking garage). As always, if you park in Lot 7, be sure to place this letter on your dashboard indicating that you are attending the ElderScholar Meeting. If you park in the high rise, when you leave, tell the attendant that you have been attending the ElderScholar Meeting.

If you have any difficulty with ticketing, call Diane Reed in the Provost’s Office in Hooper Hall at 425-4303.
