Wife Of Former Covenant Express Employee Who Died In Fire Is Charged In His Death

An arrest has been made in connection with the death of former Covenant Transport employee Matt Neal in a log cabin home fire in 2012.

A grand jury at Dickson, Tn., charged his wife, Mendy Powell Neal, with aggravated arson, first-degree murder and felony murder.

“Matt” Neal, 50, of Charlotte, Tn., was a 1979 graduate of Tyner High School and attended UTC.

According to initial reports, he was home with his wife when the house caught fire. She said she woke up and tried to rouse him where he was sleeping downstairs, then she ran out the front door to call 911.

Ms. Neal, 34, of Dickson, was released from the Dickson County Jail after posting a $250,000 bond.

Ms. Neal and another woman were charged in August 2013 with several counts of prescription drug fraud.
