Derrick Dewayne Caldwell
Investigators have made an arrest in the rape cases that were reported last weekend.
Taken into custody was Derrick Dewayne Caldwell, 30.
He is charged with two counts of aggravated rape and two counts of aggravated burglary.
Police said two women over 60 years old were raped in Brainerd and Hixson in separate incidents.
In an incident last Thursday, a woman said she was confronted in her home by a black male who grabbed her around the shoulders and throat.
She said the man told her he had a knife and, if she did what he told her, she would not get hurt.
The woman said the man said he had just been released from prison and he had not had sex in over a year. She said she believed him because he was wearing orange socks.
She said the man took her to her bedroom and proceeded to rape her.
She said he afterward stayed to talk with her, saying he was an athlete in high school and played football. He said he had to quit playing because his grades were suffering and his mother made him quit. He said his father was deceased.
Police said they received information that Caldwell was a person of interest. He was interviewed and confirmed that he played football in high school and was pulled due to his grades. He said his father was deceased. He said he was wearing orange socks when he got out of jail.
