Barbara Williamson Newton, 77, of Signal Mountain, faithful wife, mother and grandmother, died on Thursday, December 18, 2014. 

Barbara has been a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga and Signal Mountain area. She was a graduate of Tyner High School and received her Education Degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Barbara taught at Lakeside Elementary School and retired from the Hamilton County School System.  She was a longtime active member of her much-loved Brainerd Baptist Church where she sang in the choir.   Barbara was also an active member of Oakwood Baptist Church and currently a member of First Centenary United Methodist Church. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Kenneth Paul Newton; and her parents, James and Elsie Williamson.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Leza and husband, David Simpson; granddaughters, Hannah and Lizzy Simpson; sister, Bettye Kilgore; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 22, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

A graveside celebration of Barbara’s life will follow at 1 p.m. on Monday at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Doctor David Harr officiating. 

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in Barbara’s name to National Parkinson Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, N.Y. 10018, or www.support.pdf.org ; Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga, Tn. 37406 or First Centenary United Methodist Church, 419 McCallie Ave., Chattanooga, Tn. 37403.     

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
