Coca-Cola Plans Large-Scale Light Show For New Year’s Eve

  • Friday, December 19, 2014

Since it was first announced last month, ChattaNew Year has gained growing support from corporate sponsors, the city of Chattanooga and the community.

Chattanoogans have been without a community-wide signature event to call their own on New Year’s Eve. This year, that all changes. Local businesses are coming together to host ChattaNew Year, a downtown New Year’s Eve event that celebrates Chattanooga and its citizens. The DoubleTree Hotel by Hilton Chattanooga/Downtown will play host to the event and Coca-Cola Countdown to the New Year, which Coca-Cola Bottling Company United announced Friday will include a 3-D Coca-Cola bottle and light show.

“We knew Chattanooga would embrace the idea of a community-wide New Year’s Eve party, but we had no idea ChattaNew Year would take off so quickly,” said Peter Guarneiri, area director of Sales and Marketing for Vision Hospitality Group, Inc. “We are beyond thrilled to welcome the community to the DoubleTree Hotel, and kick off what we hope will be a yearly tradition. Coca-Cola Bottling Company United, as well as other sponsors, have stepped up in a big way to make this a special night for Chattanooga. We are grateful for their support and participation.”

The event will begin at 8 p.m. inside The DoubleTree Hotel. Ticket holders will enjoy music from Deep Fried Five, a champagne toast station and giveaways from Krystal and MoonPie. Additional food and beverages will be available for purchase. Event goers will also make memories in the ChattaNew Year photo booth, benefitting the Young Professionals Association of Chattanooga, or outside in an antique Coca-Cola delivery truck.

An outdoor family-friendly street party and Kidz Zone, powered by EPB, will entertain guests as the New Year approaches. Free and open to the public, the street party will include games, giveaways and local mascots. Local food trucks, including Famous Nater’s, Bitler Bistro and Rolling J’s will offer specialty food items throughout the event on Chestnut Street.

At midnight, Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke will be on hand to welcome in the New Year. Chattanooga Firefighter Jason Greer and his 17-year-old son, Tristin, will flip the switch to begin Coca-Cola’s Countdown to the New Year, with a celebratory light show to follow. Mr. Greer recently touched the hearts of Chattanoogans when he completed the Chattanooga Ironman competition to raise money for the organizations that helped treat Tristin, who is battling Stage 4 neuroblastoma.

WRCB-TV Channel 3 will serve as ChattaNew Year’s official welcomer.

The DoubleTree Hotel and Vision Hospitality Group, Inc. are proud to partner with Coca-Cola Bottling Company United, Moon Pie, Mayfield Dairy, Signature Brokers, EPB, YPAC and Derryberry Public Relations.
