If one was looking for a fast-paced up and down the court game with lots of points by the home team, but with more than ample amount of turnovers and a few entertaining dunks from both teams, then it was worth attending the Chattanooga-Montreal (N.C.) College men’s college basketball game Monday night at McKenzie Arena.

The host Mocs posted an easy 104-50 win as coach Will Wade used all 12 players with Eric Robertson leading the way with 16.

Five others were in scoring double figures as Duke Ethridge had 14. Chuck Ester led all players with eight rebounds (11 pts, 2 steals)

Montreat, an NAIA school and coached by former Moc Lincoln Walters (’98), was led by Melvin Irvin with 16 and five rebounds.

“It is important to have a game you are favored to win at the end of exams and before the first Southern Conference game to get as many players in a game,” said UTC coach Will Wade.

“I told our guys that tonight was an audition to see what the starting lineup will look like Thursday at The Citadel.”

First Half:  UTC jumped to an 11-2 lead at 15:44 with Duke Ethridge leading the way with four.

Mocs were up 24-6 at 11:29 and then 58-26 at halftime with Eric Robertson leading all scorers with 16 and Ronrico White with 14, including 4 of 4 from beyond the arc.

Second Half: Tre’ McLean had nine of his 11 points in the final 20 minutes … Mocs reached 100 points for the first time this season

“It was good to have a game like tonight (54 point win) so we could put some things into action that we have worked on in practice,” said senior Eric Robertson who had a career best 16 points.

100 Points: First 100 point game this season for Mocs … UTC reached the century mark twice last season …

Field Goals Made and Attempted:  Most FGA (76) and tied for most FGM (42) in the two-year Will Wade Era … Also most 3s made (10) this season … made 9 in season opener vs. Hiwassee.

Dunks Galore: First year Mocs Duke Ethridge, Tre’ McLean and Chuck Ester entertained the crowd with rim-rattling dunks … Montreat’s Cedric Cash also had a good break-away dunk in the first half.
