The L. A. Dodgers' pitching depth took a hit on Wednesday, when Javy Guerra was claimed by the White Sox off waivers.

The Dodgers had already given up on Guerra 10 days ago, when he was designated for assignment, and had hoped to trade him. When that didn't happen, the club tried to get the former closer through waivers so it could outright him to the Minor Leagues.

Guerra was drafted by the Dodgers in the 4th round of the 2004 amateur draft and signed on June 16, 2004.

The Dodgers needed to clear roster space for the return of pitchers Zack Greinke, Dan Haren and Brandon League before the resumption of the regular season Sunday night.
