State Declines To Enter Lawsuit Between County Schools, City Of Chattanooga

  • Thursday, May 22, 2014

The state of Tennessee is declining to intervene in a lawsuit brought by the Hamilton County Schools against the city of Chattanooga, seeking over $11 million in liquor tax funds it says it should have been remitted over a lengthy time.

The city had responded to the suit by saying the state is a necessary party to the action.

The state has now submitted a "notice of intent not to intervene."

It says the state has "no interest or role in this litigation."

The state maintains that the school board has the authority to bring such suits in Chancery Court.
