They were stationed in many bases all over Europe over the years.  Verna worked as a paralegal on several bases and made a career of it when Andre was stationed at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas.  She worked over 35 years and retired at Ft. Sam Houston in the Judge Advocates Office as a well-known and respected  paralegal.

San Antonio Texas is where she made her home for 40 years. Verna was a diehard San Antonio Spurs fan, watching every game.  Throughout her adult life, Verna traveled the world extensively.  China, Russia, Europe, Greece, Alaska Hawaii and throughout the U.S. The Swiss Alps and Alaska being her favorites.  Verna was an amazing and competitive card player, hosting bridge and other card games regularly.  She also played the piano beautifully.  Some of her hobbies included gardening, sewing, crocheting, knitting and her favorite being shopping and decorating.  She had a love for pets as well. Having many cats and dogs in her lifetime, some she took in after they were abandoned.  Verna enjoyed raising her dear children and spending time with her grandchildren, whom she adored and cherished.
