Ronald Underwood
Ronald Dean Underwood, 58, known lovingly as “Dean”, died on July 9, 2014.
Dean was born on July 1, 1956, in Sheffield, Al., and was raised and lived all his life in Chattanooga. He attended Avondale Elementary and Hardy Junior High, and graduated from Kirkman Technical High School. Dean also attended Tennessee State University and Chattanooga State Technical College. Dean was employed by the State of Tennessee Department of Transportation for 30 years.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, William T. Underwood and Dahlia Kinley Underwood; and sister, Sylvia Underwood Presley.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carla Ratliff Underwood; daughter, LaRhonda Denise Underwood, Chattanooga; sister, Taylor Underwood Rodgers, Knoxville; brother, Vincent Kinley (Helena) Underwood, Woodbridge, Virginia; father-in-law, Charles E. Ratliff; aunts, Juanita Ratliff, Linda (Jimmy) Allen; uncles, Alfonzo Simpson, Rickey (Terri) Simpson, McDonough, Georgia; two grandsons, Treviun Underwood and Telijah Snow, Chattanooga; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Ratliff (Leslie) Mines and Angela Ratliff, Chattanooga; three brothers-in-law, Charles (Barbara) Ratliff, St. Mary Georgia; Reginald (Marian) Ratliff and Rahmon O’Neal, Chattanooga; a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and close loyal friends.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, July 19, at Greater Tucker Baptist Church with Reverend J. R. Bridgeman officiating. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery.
The body will lie in state after noon on Friday, July 18, at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
