The Dalton State volleyball Roadrunners (2-1) took a break from the regular season Tuesday night by hosting NCAA Division II Southern Wesleyan in a scrimmage at B. J. Bandy Gym.
The visiting Warriors, who officially open their season next weekend in the Northwood Hardwood Challenge in West Palm Beach, FL, swept Dalton State, 3-0.
Southern Wesleyan broke open a close 4-7 first set and went on to win 25-17. The next two sets were 25-21 wins for the Warriors.
The Roadrunners never led in set two, but managed ties at seven and again at 20. Set three saw the Warriors gaining an eight point (10-2) lead, but Dalton State pulled to within one at 21-20.
Dalton had six serving errors in the match, but Alyne Bianchi had three serving aces and Savannah Nelson had two.
The Roadrunners return to regular season Tuesday night at Truett-McConnell College in Cleveland, Ga. The Bears have had a couple of scrimmage matches, but the Tuesday, 6:00 p.m. game will be their first counting action.
