Cleveland Blue Raider girls soccer coach Andy Byrd wants his players to keep the game of soccer simple and do the little things right.

Tuesday night, senior Jenna Scoggins did a couple of big things right, including converting  the deciding penalty kick, to lead the Blue Raiders (4-2-1, 1-1) to a victory against visiting Soddy Daisy on penalty kicks in a AAA Region 3, District 5 match.

Tied at 1-1 after regulation and two 10 minute overtime periods, Scoggins was in goal for the penalty kicks as three of the five Trojan shots missed the mark and likewise for the Blue Raiders making it 2-2 with one Cleveland player to shot for the win..

That Cleveland player was none other than Scoggins who removed her goalkeeper gloves took her place as the fifth kicker and put the ball in the back of the goal past Soddy Daisy goalkeeper Sydney Burton for the 3-2 win.

"Of course I am pleased with the outcome as we have battled through some injuries and want to keep doing the little things right and we will be fine," said coach Byrd.

The Trojans scored first on a Kelsey Henry goal from Olivia Gore in the 28th minute for the 1-0 halftime lead.

Cleveland junior Sam DeBien evened the match at 1-1 in the 57th minute as her shot hit the cross bar and deflected in the goal.

The Trojans (3-3-1, 1-1) ad a chance to go up 2-0 in the 51st minute, but Baylee Burk's header hit the cross bar, bounced straight down and was cleared out by Scoggins.

In the first 10 minute overtime period, Soddy Daisy had a one on one with new goalkeeper Isabel Tellez who came out of the goal 20 yards to smother a potential game winning shot.

"We had chances to score, but didn't get it done," said Soddy Daisy coach Moises Drumond. "But if we keep creating chances the goals will come down the road."
