James Franklin Harris, 74, of Cloudland, Georgia, died on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at his home.

Mr. Harris was born Dec. 2, 1939, in Dayton, Tn., the son of the late James Burton Harris and Ruth Ann Bishop Harris. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Vietnam. Before retirement, Mr. Harris was a maintenance supervisor with Mt. Vernon Mills and a member of the Quarter Century Club.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jamie Harris.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Sue Key Harris; daughters and sons-in-law, Janet Harris and Dennis Hartline, Jenny and Franklin Jones, and Jill and Robert Neal; brother, John Elmer Harris; grandchildren, Melody LeAnn Gideon, Sara Lynn Harris, Bobby Neal, and Macy Neal.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at Mason Funeral Home with Reverend Roger Kennard officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by Shanklin/Attaway Post #5 Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Yogi Hegwood, Wayne Guthrie, Joshua Key, Robby Neal, Dylan Dodd, Devin Dodd, and Larry Maddux. Honorary pallbearers will be all members of the Men’s Sunday School Class of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church; employees of the Maintenance Department of Mt. Vernon Mills; all members of the Quarter Century Club; all patients and staff of Summerville Dialysis; Dennis Hartline, Boyd Hartline, Tony McAllister, and Franklin Jones.

Mr. Harris will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
