Nellie Mae Sumner, 97, of Cleveland, TN, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2014 at a local hospital.
She was a Minister’s wife in the Church of God for 72 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She was a member of North Cleveland Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Reverend Russell H. Sumner; parents, John W. and Verdy A. Mathews; brothers, William R. Mathews, Olland “Jim” Mathews and John W. Mathews; and sister, Edwina M. Ditchfield.
She is survived by her children, Donnie Sumner and wife, Martha of Hendersonville and L. Sharon Adkins and husband, Wilfred of Cleveland; four grandchildren, Jeffery D. Sumner and wife, Myra of Cleveland, Robin N. Sutton and husband, Michael of Lakeland, FL, Christopher R. Adkins and wife, Anita of Cleveland and Jessica L. Adkins of Cleveland; eight great-grandchildren, Ethan M. Sutton, Meghan N. Sutton, Holden J. Sutton, Elexus Sumner, L. Emmaline Adkins, Isabel M. Adkins, Julia M. Adkins and Coralyn R. Adkins; brother, Franklin D. Mathews and wife, Marsha of NC; sisters-in-law, Myrtis Mathews of TN and Pat Mathews of KY; and several other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, at North Cleveland Church of God with Pastor Mitch Maloney officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, September 20 at the church prior to the service.
