Lady Scots Earn 2-0 Win Over Greensboro

  • Saturday, September 20, 2014
The Covenant women's soccer team was able to convert consistent offensive pressure and solid team defense into a victory over Greensboro, 2-0 on a beautiful Friday afternoon at Scotland Yard.

With the victory in their first conference match of the season, Covenant moves to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play.  Greensboro falls to 2-4 and 0-1.

The Lady Scots had numerous first half chances, but were unable to convert until Christy Barton was able to slip past Pride goalkeeper Jessica Thatcher and put the ball into the back of the net in the 42nd minute.
It was her first career goal.

Greensboro had a couple of very good chances to tie the score early in the second half, including a header by Lauren Greeson in the 50th minute, but were kept out of the net by keeper Lucy Johnson and the rest of the Lady Scots defense

Later, in the 62nd minute, Anna Porch would tally her team-leading sixth goal of the season when she scored from the far left side of the box to make it 2-0 and put Covenant into the driver's seat.

Johnson got the shutout, her first of the season, by stopping four shots, all in the second half. Thatcher made five saves for the Pride, who were outshot 14-12 overall.

The Lady Scots will be back in action on Saturday when they take on Ferrum at 4:30 p.m. after the Covenant men's team plays at 2 p.m.
