Grace Simmons
Grace Mae Hogg Simmons, 73, died on Saturday, August 30, 2014.
She was a graduate of the 1958 class of Howard School, and received her bachelor's of science and master's of arts degrees from Tennessee State University, where she was a member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. She is a retired educator of the Chattanooga Public Schools system, where she taught for 30 years.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Lucius Simmons; parents, Ernest and Mattie Hogg, Sr.; brothers, Ernest Jr., Nealie, Ealie and Earl Hogg; and sister, Virginia Hogg Lewis.
She is survived by her sister, Minister Wilhemenia Hogg; brother, Rev. Dr. Robert L. (Charlene) Hogg, Sr.; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and other relatives, and many dear friends.
The funeral service will be on Saturday, Sept. 6, at noon at the New Monumental Baptist Church. The family will receive visitors at the church one hour before the funeral service. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Gardens.
The body will lie in state after noon on Friday, Sept. 5, and there will be a closed ceremony conducted by Zeta Phi Beta Sorority from 6:30–7:30 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
