Ella Mae Middleton Patterson, 79, died on August 31, 2014 at NHC Nursing Facility in Chattanooga. 

 

She was born on August 2, 1935 in Talucah, in Morgan County, Alabama to Versie Russell Middleton and Jahezie Middleton.

 

Mother Patterson joined Antioch Primitive Baptist Church in the fall of 1968 under the leadership of the Late Ezell Tibbs, where she was a faithful and serving member until her health declined.  She sung in the Choir member of club #4, Sunday School Teacher, the Mother’s Board and other ministries during her service.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; one sister, Lucille Winton; three brothers, William E. Winton, Charles W. Middleton and Jessie J. Winton and niece, Loverne P. Rice.

 

Mother Patterson is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, William Patterson; three children, Jerome Kelley of Chattanooga; Donna Marie (Robert) Kelley Appiah, Stationed in Harare, South Africa and Wanda Kelly (Alvin) Woodard of Chattanooga; step-daughter, Linda Walker of Chattanooga; six grandchildren, Christopher E. Kelley, Tamara Kelley-Ramsey, Evay Markle Kelley, Keisha Faye Peoples, Robert S. Appiah and April Dewanda Kelley; thirteen  great-grandchildren; one sister, Lula Mae Turner of Huntsville, Alabama; brother,  Curtis Middleton of Huntsville, Alabama; brothers and sisters-in-law, Elder Clinton D. Patterson; Lillie Patterson of Birmingham, AL; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Nelson of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Mrs. Florence Sanders, Hardeville, SC and Ruby Hubbert of Boston, Massachusetts; special relative/caregiver, Linda Kelly and nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

 

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6, at Antioch Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Clinton D. Patterson officiating. Interment will be on Monday, Sept. 8, at 10:30 a.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

 

The body will lie in state after noon on Friday, Sept. 5, at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
