SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- University of Tennessee at Chattanooga sophomore guard Chelsey Shumpert (Paducah, Ky.) was selected the Southern Conference Player of the Week, marking the first time for a Chattanooga player this season.
Shumpert led the Mocs in two games over the past week with 17.0 points and 6.0 assists per game. The sophomore was 12-of-19 (.632) from the field and 8-of-14 (.571) on three-pointers in the two victories for Chattanooga.
Shumpert had a game-high 15 points and a career-high nine assists in a win over Western Carolina on Saturday.
The guard then had a game-high 19 points against UNCG on Monday, thanks to a career-high five three-point field goals, with three assists and three steals.
The native of Paducah, Ky. ranks in the top 15 in the SoCon in scoring, averaging 11.4 points per game and leads the Mocs in scoring for the first time this season. She is third in three-pointers made in the SoCon at 2.4 per game and ranks among the best in the NCAA in treys per game and 3-point field goal percentage.
Mercer’s Kahlia Lawrence was selected the CRONS Freshman of the Week for the league averaging 20.5 points per game with 16 rebounds and five assists as the Bears went 1-1 last week.
