High I.Q: "Our starting five has a very high I.Q. and their basketball intelligence is off the charts."

UTC Women's Basketball Coach Jim Foster.

It was Keiana Gilbert Day at McKenzie Arena as the Chattanooga freshman played as though a seasoned veteran scoring a game-high 19 points to lead the Lady Mocs to a comfortable, 67-45, win against visiting Furman in a Southern Conference women's basketball game earlier today.

Teammates Chelsey Shumpert scored 13 while Jasmine Joyner added 12 and Ka'Vonne Towns rounded out the foursome in double figures with 11.

"We are a very unselfish team and do a good job of getting the ball to several players," said UTC coach Jim Foster.

High I.Q: "Our starting five has a very high I.Q. and their basketball intelligence is off the charts," said Foster.

UTC led 30-19 at half and held its largest lead at 26 (49-23) at 14:47 on a 3-pointer by Towns.

The Mocs improve to 17-3 overall and a perfect 5-0 in the SoCon, while Furman is 12-9 overall and 1-4 in conference play.

Gilbert was a torrid nine of 10 from the field, including one, 3-pointer and added one steal, one block and one assist.

The Paladins were led by Holli Wikins with 18 points, while teammate Brittany Hodges has four points and seven rebounds.

* Worth Noting: Furman has been held to under 50 points twice this season ... both times by UTC ..

Lady Mocs won 47-40 at Furman (1-12-15) and won today 67-45

* Mocs Defense: "Coach Foster stresses that we be more aggressive, move our feet and keep our hands up and it works well for us," said Towns

"Red (Payne) (at 5-9) is very annoying to the other team when we are on defense and she disrupts their game," said Towns with a laugh.  Payne had three rebounds and three steals.

* Turnovers: Furman came into the game averaging 15.8 turnovers per ... today they committed 21 ... Mocs only had six turnovers ..

Next Game: The Mocs host Samford Monday at 6 p.m.

* Moses on the Mic: Sophomore Moses Johnson was impressive with her rendition of the national anthem prior to tip off ... hint: her later mother was a preacher and Johnson most likely grew up singing in the church choir.
