The Chattanooga Theatre Centre is hosting a special Valentine’s Day celebration and performance of the Sondheim musical “Into the Woods” on Saturday, Feb. 14. Beginning at 7 p.m., guests are invited to enjoy complimentary champagne, Hershey’s kisses, candy hearts, and listen to love songs in the CTC lobby overlooking the Tennessee River before the 8 p.m. curtain.
Parking for theatre patrons attending this Valentine event is complimentary, with the parking attendant present beginning at 5 p.m. for those planning to dine at a NorthShore restaurant before the performance.
“Into the Woods” is the Tony Award-winning musical by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine that intertwines the plots of several fairy tales and follows them to their unnatural conclusions. A young maiden called Cinderella, an abstracted boy named Jack, his mother, the giant he upsets, a childless baker and his wife, Rapunzel, a couple of princes, a witch, Little Red Riding Hood, and the wolf all find themselves in the woods, where they are forced to face their fears, and learn a few lessons along the way.
"Bring your own Prince Charming, fairy princess, or even your Granny and the Big Bad Wolf and fall in love with one of Stephen Sondheim’s most magical musicals," organizers said.
“Into the Woods” plays 10 performances at the Chattanooga Theatre Centre Feb. 13-March 1. Tickets are $25 per person and are available online or by calling the box office at 423-267-8534 Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The Chattanooga Theatre Centre is located at 400 River St. The CTC is funded in part by ArtsBuild, The Tennessee Arts Commission, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
