Howard Murphy
Howard A. Murphy, 86, of Hixson, died on Sunday, October 11, 2015.
Howard was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota. He joined the United States Army in 1951 and retired from the military with over 20 years of active service. Howard served during the Korean War and twice in Vietnam. He was awarded the following medals during his service for our country: National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Korean War Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm medal, Expert (M-14 & M-16 and 45 caliber Pistol), and six service stripes. Thank you for your noble sacrifice for our country.
After his retirement Howard worked for National Poster which became Spectra Posters and retired after 17 years with them. He was of the Baptist faith, and he loved to hunt and fish.
He was preceded in death by his parents, several siblings, son, J.L., and grandson, Daniel.
Howard is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sarah Dye Murphy; children, Robert (Cheri) Swanson, Kathy Perkins, Kristy (Allen) Casseday and James (Brandy) Murphy; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and his special nephews and niece, Johnny (Kay) Dresow, Danny Dresow and Judy Dresow.
The family will receive friends from 4-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13, and 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Services for Howard will follow at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home chapel with Reverend Jay Reed officiating. Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
