"Winter Wonders" Exhibit Coming To Creative Discovery Museum

  • Saturday, October 24, 2015

Chattanooga will soon get its first taste of snow courtesy of Creative Discovery Museum’s annual Snow Day event and the return of its popular “Winter Wonders” exhibit.

Opening Nov. 21, “Winter Wonders” allows children to play dress up in the cozy cottage, make pretend gingerbread cookies and spend time in the comfortable reading area learning about winter.

Guests can also explore the mysteries of the blizzard pool noodle maze and practice their sliding skills in the ice skating area.

New this year, the exhibit will feature an expanded area for snowball fights including a target practice area. The popular tree house from the Museum’s “Good for You: Healthy Fun on the Run” exhibit will be added to the snowball area and give guests the added fun of climbing and exploring high up above.

The Winter Forest area of the exhibit offers preschoolers the opportunity to join in the winter fun with age-appropriate activities. Guests can dress like a forest animal, “hibernate” in a tree stump and go ice fishing.“This exhibit offers families the opportunity to enjoy the magic of the holidays in a rich educational setting,” said Jayne Griffin, Director of Education at Creative Discovery Museum. “Children will enjoy the thrills of a winter day in the ‘Winter Wonders’ exhibit as well as our annual Snow Day event.”

During Snow Day, guests will have the opportunity to participate in several winter-themed activities ranging from hands-on crafts to an interactive cooking lesson.

The Atlanta-based Capital City Opera Company will perform the beloved classic, Hansel and Gretel, with the help of five lucky children from the audience at 2 p.m. In addition, guests will be treated to a winter-themed performance from Tempo Dance Studio based in Fort Oglethorpe, Ga.

All Snow Day activities are included with Museum admission. For more information, call 423-756-2738.
