Jimmy Daniel Smiley, 78, died on October 3, 2015.

He was a native of Lyerly, Ga., but had lived in Chattanooga for over 50 years. He was a member of East Lake Masonic Lodge #698, a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired boilermaker after 30 years. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jesse Smiley; sisters, Elsie Sullivan and Farris Compton.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Smiley of Harrison; son, Bruce Smiley of Pikeville; stepchildren, Keith Whaley of Chattanooga, Billy Whaley of Birchwood, Angela Vaughn of Hixson, Carla Mickel of Hixson, and Kathy Whaley of Perry, Georgia; sisters, Deb Sher of Harrison, Patti Settoon of Menlo, Ga., and Linda Wilson of Harrison; grandchildren, Jennifer and Daniel Smiley; several stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 6 p.m. in the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with Minister Max Redmond Officiating followed by Masonic services.

The family will receive friends the same day, two hours prior to the service. Burial will be private.
