  • Friday, October 9, 2015
The Covenant men's soccer team lost a USA South match for the first time in almost a full year on Friday night as visiting North Carolina Wesleyan scored a 1-0 victory at Scotland Yard.

The loss for Covenant is the first inside the conference since Oct. 10, 2014 at Methodist and the first home conference loss since Oct. 2, 2013 to Maryville.
Covenant goes to 3-7-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the USA South. N.C. Wesleyan remains unbeaten in conference play at 4-0 and moves to 6-4-1 overall.

The lone goal of the match came in the 49th minute. Following a corner kick, the ball deflected several times inside the 18-yard box until the Battling Bishops' Caetano Viages fed Joe Storer a quick pass and Storer put the shot into the net.

Covenant had chances in the final 10 minutes to try and find the equalizer, but could not convert. The Scots took three shots and had three corner kicks in the final minutes of regulation.

The first half featured a lot of action, but both teams could put just one shot on target each in the period as the period ended scoreless.

Covenant keeper Daniel Kubin made five saves for the Scots, while N.C. Wesleyan Jesper Olsson made one save. The Battling Bishops outshot Covenant 18-6. Ethan Pettit led the Scots with three shots, while Russell Harrison attempted two.
