John Phillips Releases New Book, A Time To Be Born

  • Friday, November 13, 2015

After practicing law for more than 40 years, writing two books on employment law, and writing a monthly employment law newsletter for over 20 years, John B. Phillips has written his first non-legal book, A Time To Be Born: Meditations on the Birth of a Child.

Inspired by the births of his first two grandchildren (born five months apart), the book contains 12 meditations, each based on a passage of scripture and accompanied by a piece of original art. The meditations contain Mr. Phillips’ personal thoughts inspired by the scripture preceding each meditation. Childbirth is presented as a spiritual journey, filled with the adventures of pain and joy that connect parent and child with God.

A Time To Be Born is intended for parents actively participating in the childbirth journey, grandparents as encouragers and supporters, and all who love them. Rather than a doctrinal treatise on childbirth, the book is a grandfather’s expression of thanksgiving, love and grace.

Mr. Phillips practiced law most of his career with Miller & Martin, serving as managing partner for five years. He also served as deputy general counsel for Labor and Employment with Coca-Cola Enterprises and as general counsel for CraftWorks Restaurants. A frequent speaker at employment law and human resources seminars and conferences, Mr. Phillips developed several nationally recognized training videos for human resources professionals.

Listed in The Best Lawyers in America for many years, he has also been recognized in Super Lawyers, Mid-South Edition. He has served as chair or president of the boards of the Tennessee Aquarium, Boys & Girls Club of Chattanooga, Downtown Kiwanis Club, Chattanooga Convention & Visitors Bureau, and Chattanooga State Community College Foundation, as well as serving on several other non-profit boards.

The book can be purchased through Mr. Phillips’ website, www.john-b-phillips.com. It is also available through Amazon. Mr. Phillips has begun a scripture blog that can be accessed though his website.
