Causeway To Host City-Wide Thanksgiving Potluck In The Middle Of MLK Boulevard

  • Monday, November 2, 2015

Causeway invites all of Chattanooga to the second annual One Table, a community-wide Thanksgiving potluck in the middle of Martin Luther King Boulevard on Monday, Nov. 23, from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Last year, nearly 700 Chattanoogans–young and old, black and white, rich and poor–came together to share a Thanksgiving meal at one table, in the middle of Martin Luther King Boulevard. Live music filled the streets as people from all corners of the city gathered to join their neighbors for a potluck lunch.  Residents of the nearby affordable housing complex, Patten Towers, stood in line next to CEOs from some of Chattanooga’s most successful companies; small business owners sat next to local families.

“I had lunch with a man who is African-American and blind and lives in Patten Towers,” said one woman who attended One Table.  “I am white, live in the suburbs and work in the corporate world.  We simply never would have met each other any other way.  It was inspiring and exciting and such a good thing for our city.”

The event, called One Table, was hosted by local nonprofit, Causeway. Causeway inspires and equips Chattanoogans to develop smarter solutions to the city’s toughest challenges, said officials. The organization is preparing to host the second annual One Table on Monday, Nov. 23, with plans to make it even bigger and better this year. Footage from last year’s event can be seen in this video created by Lift 1428.

“The space between Miller Park and Miller Plaza seems like a symbol of the things that often separate us,” says Abby Garrison, Causeway’s executive director. “One Table is Causeway’s attempt to remove barriers and bring people together from across Chattanooga to get to know each other and build understanding and friendship.  What better way to do that than while having a meal and giving thanks for our great city together?”

The block of Martin Luther King Boulevard between Miller Park and Miller Plaza will be closed to traffic, but open for the community Thanksgiving potluck, One Table. Causeway is inviting the entire community to join them for the event.

Causeway and Dish t’ Pass will provide the turkey and dressing. Some of Chattanooga's restaurants, including Community Pie, Neidlov’s, and Alleia, will bring large side dishes to share. In true potluck fashion, Causeway asks that attendees bring a ready-to-serve dish, if they are able. One Table is made possible through corporate and individual sponsors.
