The Covenant women's basketball team suffered from a cold shooting night as they fell on the road to Birmingham Southern 79-39 on Tuesday night inside Bill Battle Coliseum.

Covenant (1-3) received seven points and six rebounds from Joanna Smith, but the Scots managed to connect on 21.7 percent (13-of-60) from the field on the night as they dropped their third straight game.

Four players scored in double figures for Birmingham Southern (4-0) led by Halle Knowles and Yorisha Bryant with 12 points apiece. Jameice Holmes added 11 points, while Jasmynn Batts recorded 10 in the victory.

The host Panthers got out to an 18-7 lead in the opening period and would not trail the entire contest. A Smith basket cut the Covenant deficit to 10 at 24-14 in the early minutes of the second quarter, but Birmingham Southern surged ahead and took a 37-19 lead into halftime.

Jessica Bell had six points off the bench for Covenant, while Aleigha Williams grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Clara Dirkse and Bekah Walter had five points each in the loss.
