Deveaux King, 20, has been arrested and charged with theft of property, resisting arrest, public intoxication, vandalism, possession of a controlled substance, and disorderly conduct after he allegedly stole a church van and fought with police.

When officers responded to the 8600 block of Daisy Dallas Road, they found the Fellowship Baptist Church van parked in the driveway and King on the porch drinking with two other men.

When asked, he told authorities he had driven the van to the home, and one of the other men said that he had been bragging about a new vehicle he had stolen. He further added that King had found the van unlocked with the keys inside.

After hearing these statements, officers then attempted to put King into cuffs, but said his entire body began to tense up and he started to resist.

Officers said that King was taken to the ground after he attempted to pull away and then refused to walk to the patrol car for transport, spitting on officers as they carried him.

King allegedly attempted to kick officers and the car and had to be pulled in through the other side of the car.

Still belligerent after being pulled into the car, King was sprayed with pepper spray in an attempt to stop him from harming himself or the vehicle any further.

Upon searching the van, officers found a gram of marijuana, a glass pipe, and a digital scale inside.
