Cleveland City Manager Janice Casteel is retiring effective May 31,  2016, after 42 years of service with the city.

Ms. Casteel was employed by the city on Oct. 10, 1973.

She will have almost nine years as city manager (July 1, 2007-May 31, 2016).

Ms. Casteel noted that she was initially hired by Finance Commissioner Max Carroll and City Clerk Brad Evans.

She stated, "I was honored to be appointed city manager by the City Council effective July 1, 2007 and have enjoyed facilitating the projects and policies approved by the Council and pledge a seamless transition.

"I have enjoyed serving the Mayor and City Council, citizens of Cleveland, Department Heads and City employees. I will miss my work with the city of Cleveland, but look forward to time with my family...camping with my husband, starting some of those home projects we've planned, and evening meals with my sons and their families. And those of you with grandchildren know the joy they bring.

"I wish nothing but the best to the city of Cleveland - continued growth and prosperity."
