Hamilton Place Raises Funds For The Next Door While Celebrating National Quilting Day

  • Monday, February 2, 2015

Hamilton Place has created an event to celebrate National Quilting Day while raising funds for The Next Door Chattanooga, a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving women in crisis. The event will be held on Saturday March 21 from 1-4 p.m. and will feature local quilters demonstrating a variety of techniques along with a clothesline quilt show.

Local quilters, Linda Meck, Carol Hooper, Phyllis Godschall, Sandy Rathjen, and Suzan Dodd created the 60” x 70” opportunity quilt, “Stepping Stones” which will be given away at the event.  The quilt is now on display at the mall tourist information center (located on the upper level of the mall near Sears) where tickets can be purchased for a donation of $5.  All proceeds will go directly to The Next Door Chattanooga.

Local quilter and event coordinator Sandi Suggs organized the local guilds to present this event.    “We are looking forward to showcasing the incredible work that area quilters have done – what a perfect way to do that in the mall on National Quilting Day, while giving back to such an incredible organization.”  Local quilter and graphic artist, Pam McCallie, designed the event logo and collaterals.

Becky Phelps, Regional Director at The Next Door Chattanooga said, “We are thrilled to be working with Hamilton Place and the local quilter’s on this event and are excited to further our work in Chattanooga to prepare women for successful reentry into the community”.

The event is sponsored by Chattanooga Sewing Machine Center, Bernina Sew N Quilt, Chattanooga Quilts, Spool, and Ready Set Sew.
