Blue Blazes Trail Hike Offered At Moccasin Bend March 28

  • Wednesday, March 11, 2015

Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park invites the public to participate in a free ranger-guided hike of the Blue Blazes Trail on Moccasin Bend. The two-mile, two-hour hike will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, at the Blues Blazes Trail parking area, south of the Moccasin Bend Golf Course. “Special Program” signs will be posted along the road to help guide visitors.

Blue Blazes Trail has been a focal point for hikers since the late 1980s and has more stories than meets the regular hiker’s eye.  National Military Park Historian Jim Ogden will relate some of the rich history traversed by the trail’s route as well as discuss how the path came into existence.

Participants will also learn more about the history of Moccasin Bend and how the Blue Blazes Trail can serve as an entry point to the Bend.

Comfortable, supportive, wet-weather footwear, clothing appropriate for environmental conditions and water are recommended for this moderate hike.
