According to UTC football coach Russ Huesman, the annual Spring Game is about staying away from injuries, get a good look at the younger guys who are fighting for playing time, and more pass plays than running the ball.

The White Team defeated the Blue Team 6-0 on a pair of field goals by junior Henrique Ribeiro.

Players of the Game: Sophomore quarterback Alejandro Bennifield was 5-8 passing for 42 yards and was the offensive player of the game, while redshirt freshman linebacker Dale Warren was the defensive player of the game with six tackles.

The leading rusher was Shaqualm McCoy (So.
LaGrange College) with eight carries for 33 yards and the leading receiver was DeJuan McQuarters (RS Fr. Mitchell HS in Memphis) with five catches for 25 yards.

“We did handcuff the offense by not running our standard plays, but the positives were we took care of the football, executed the clock well and did stay away from injuries,” said coach Huesman.

Sense of Urgency: “But I was concerned with our lack of sense of urgency. Took many times, the offense was a little slow in getting set for the snap. We have to line up quick and everyone has to know where to go in the formation."

Game Stats and Notes

Offensive Player of the Game: Quarterback Alejandro Bennifield

Defensive Player of the Game: Linebacker Dale Warren.
“Dale can run and he will hit you,” said coach Huesman. “He has a bright future.”
Warren, a redshirt freshman, had 12 tackles last year.

Bob Davis Winter Warrior Award: Junior Running Back Derrick Craine
“Derrick has such an unbelievable work ethic, did great in our off-season conditioning program and always in the weight room,” said coach Huesman. “He is the type player you want who is committed to the off season program.”
