McCallie Netters Stop Knox Webb 5-2

Five Tornado Seniors Honored

It was Senior Day for McCallie Tennis and the Blue Tornado defeated five-time D-II A defending state champ Knox Webb, 5-2 Tuesday.

Seniors Carter Eaves (No.2), Conner O’Brien No.4), and Andrew Smith (No.5) all posted straight set wins, while senior Cody Gubin lost a tough match at No.1 to TSSAA D-II A state singles champion Lozeno Rollhauser, 7-6 (4), 6-3. Senior Turner Voges has not played this season due to a stress fracture in his lower back.

College Bound: Gubin will play at Rollins College (Fla.), Voges is headed to U.

of Memphis and Rollhauser will play for U. of Dayton in the fall.

“It’s tough to say good bye to your seniors but it is fun to recall the good memories of them as they have come through the program the last few years,” said McCallie coach Eric Voges whose team improved to 5-6.

Next Match: McCallie is at Ensworth Thursday and the Carter Invitational at MBA, Friday and Saturday.
