East Ridge Elementary Teacher Takes His Own Life After Allegations Of Inappropriate Touching

  • Thursday, April 23, 2015

An East Ridge Elementary School teacher has taken his own life after allegations of inappropriate touching of children.

East Ridge Police said they were in the process of investigating allegations against Rick Hasty, but no charges had been filed.

WDEF TV said he had been suspended by the school system while officials investigated allegations brought by two parents. County school officials said they received complaints from only one family.

East Ridge Elementary teachers Susan Sasse and Susan Proctor made a statement in support of Mr. Hasty.

They said, "We are devastated by the death of our friend and colleague, Rick Hasty. We have worked side by side with this man for years and always admired his professionalism. He was very well respected and had been an educator for years with a wonderful reputation.

"He was kind and helpful with teachers, and students of all levels. This sweet and good man will be sorely missed by many."
