Stop The Metro Weekly - And Response (4)

  • Wednesday, April 8, 2015

Is there any way get the Times Free Press to stop throwing their 'Metro Weekly' ad package in my driveway?

If I were to drive around the city systematically throwing stuff out the car window, I would soon end up in court.

But this deliberate and undesirable advertising practice has gone on for years, and we seem to have no remedy for it.

I have spoken to the TFP three times over the last several weeks about this issue, the last time to the relatively new president of the TFP (who seems like an incredibly nice guy), who was kind enough to call me personally after I left a scathing couple of messages on his machine. But to no avail so far.  There was another one in my yard again this morning. There are seven in my neighbor's drive because the neighbor refuses to pick them up and have ground them to a pulp with their car. Same for other houses throughout certain areas of East Brainerd.

Also, I have recently been called twice to subscribe at a discount even though I thought I was on a no call list. One seemed to be from a local number, one from a boiler room operation perhaps. One of the callers asked why I cancelled my subscription after a couple of decades and I unloaded. They will probably get me back when Drew Johnson is rehired and placed in total charge of both sides of the editorial page.

Get the tag number and description of the car. Stop the driver and explain that what he is doing is dumping (unwanted litter/trash/rubbish on someone's private property against their wishes and without their permission).

Then tell him that you will make a police report and you and your neighbors will get a warrant for the illegal dumping.

This worked for me.

I had called the number on the “paper” to unsubscribe three times to no avail and it became very frustrating.

I was fortunate enough to be home one day when the delivery lady drove up the street and was able to flag her down on her way back down the hill.  I informed her I had called numerous times to have the deliveries stopped (I would have said canceled but this was never authorized in this first place) and also relayed to her my neighbors had made attempts as well as she could probably tell by the yellow mush in their driveways.  She said that information was never relayed to her but would make sure it didn’t happen again.  She was very considerate and apologetic and since our face to face talk we have been litter free for about a year.

I also figure if I ever did need a copy I could pick one of the numerous copies that have been thrown across Kings Point Road, obviously by other frustrated recipients of this unauthorized litter.

It's a shame we have so many gun battles in certain parts of the city. An outside could come in, look at a map with the number of gun incidents and quickly formulate that most of inside Chattanooga ... more
