CCS Wins Region Baseball Semifinal 3-2

The Chargers of Chattanooga Christian School earned a trip to the region championship
on Monday with a 3-2 win over visiting Upperman. 

Upperman got on the board first with a line drive triple that scored one in the second inning. 

CCS tied the game in the bottom of the second with a fielder's choice run scored by John Alston on a Jack Bosworth to first base.

Upperman took the lead again in the top of the third 2-1. 

CCS tied the game in the bottom of the fifth. Mac Cochran reached first on an error and Jack Bosworth followed up with a single.

Jared Miller's scrafice fly moved Cochran to third and Bosworth to second. Matthew Mercer singled to left field to score Cochran and tie the game at two.

Upperman put two guys on base in the sixth but could not score. 

CCS once again strung together a couple of hits and took the lead.

Zach Mercer started the bottom of the sixth with a single. Josh Taylor bunted Mercer to second and reached first. 

Jack Bosworth doubled to right field for what would be the game winner, scoring Mercer.

CCS's Brandon Mason came into close the game in the top of the seven.  Mason allowed one hit and a walk but CCS retired the side for the win.

Zach Mercer pitched six innings, allowing six hits. 

CCS will host the region finals on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
