Josephine Howard Bennett Peper died peacefully with her family at her side on May 2, 2015.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Neal C. Bennett, Sr. and John Peper; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe M. Howard (Ora); and brother, Dr. James Marion Howard.

Surviving family are children, Elaine Preston (Frank) and Neal Bennett (Gayla); grandchildren, Mark Preston (Holly), Rob Preston (Sarah), Neal Bennett (Stacy), and Jason Bennett (Stacey). Great-grandchildren are Tyler and Derek Preston, Lynn and Will Bennett, and Carter and Layla Bennett. Nieces are Jane and Judy Howard and Linda Wojcik. She also had several much loved cousins that were special to her.

Jo was a member of Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church and lived on Signal Mountain most of her life. She enjoyed knitting, wild flowers, and feeding birds. She was presented a Life Membership in “Together Knits” Knitting Guild in September 2013. She was a great friend of animals and wild life – especially her dog Delta.

She graduated from Chattanooga High School and McKenzie Business College. Her work experience included the Chattanooga Times, Town of Signal Mountain, and American National Bank.

She was proud of her family whom she loved very much and grateful to God for a long life of good health and many blessings.

Burial will be at Chattanooga Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, with Reverend Margaret Ferguson officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the church.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Special Olympics or Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church.
