Virginia Bradley Yarbrough, 98, formerly of Chattanooga, died peacefully and entered the presence of God on May 2, 2015 in Raleigh, NC where she had lived with her daughter and family these last 10 years.

Born Jan. 31, 1917, in Waynesboro, GA, she was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Joseph and Flossie Baldridge Bradley, and two of her brothers, Paul and Ray Bradley.

She grew up in Millen, GA, and St. Stephen, SC. Her family brought her to Chattanooga before 1940 where she married W. Everett Yarbrough as he went off to war in Europe. After his safe return, they raised a daughter and enjoyed all their family until his death in 1989. Some of her very happy times were her years as a Girl Scout leader, Day Camp director, and Camp Craft instructor. She retired from the Admissions Department of Joe Johnson Mental Health Center at Moccasin Bend.

She is survived by her brother, Joe Bradley; sisters-in-law, Doris and Frankie Bradley; cousins, Betty Spradling and Dotsy Cupp; daughter, Jan and son-in-law, Jerry Ernst; beloved grandchildren, Jonathan and Catherine Ernst, all of Raleigh; step granddaughter, Julie Ernst-Fortin of Atlanta; and her six nieces and six nephews, all of whom she loved.

She rejoiced in all her extended family and, with her crystal clear memory, was a well-loved living bridge to her family’s past.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, at the funeral home.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 8, at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Minister John Cupp officiating.

Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, and Florist, 404 South Moore Road.
