Dr. Sargent Presents At American Association Of Plastic Surgeons' Annual Meeting

  • Monday, June 1, 2015

Dr. Larry Sargent, senior partner at The Plastic Surgery Group, presented to colleagues from around the country at the 94th annual meeting of the American Association of Plastic Surgeons.

Dr. Sargent shared his paper, “A Single Surgeon’s 30-Year Experience of Total Vault Remodeling in the Treatment of Sagittal Craniosynostosis: A compilation of perioperative outcomes, complications and long-term results in skeletal maturity,” which was selected from hundreds of submissions, during the conference’s scientific session. The abstract was published in the April issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Journal.

As the founder of the nationally-recognized Tennessee Craniofacial Center, Dr. Sargent has reconstructed the faces of hundreds of patients from nearly every state in America and many foreign countries who have at least one thing in common: serious facial injuries or congenital deformities.

He has been responsible for many groundbreaking innovations in the field of craniofacial surgery and recently made his second appearance on the Emmy Award-winning television show The Doctors to discuss his revolutionary use of 3D printing, 3D modeling and a technique known as distraction for craniofacial reconstruction.

Not all of Dr. Sargent’s cases involve facial trauma or birth defects; he performs a full range of cosmetic surgery to bring out his patients’ personal best.

“Plastic surgery is, at its best, a unique blend of artistic creativity and technical skill,” he said. He applies those skills to rebuild the looks and lives of people ranging from infants to senior citizens.

In addition to his practice with The Plastic Surgery Group, Dr. Sargent serves as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Plastic Surgery at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine at Chattanooga.

He is an Atlanta native who received his medical degree from Emory University after graduating from Georgia Tech. After medical school, he completed a residency in General Surgery and Plastic Surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. He then completed additional training in craniofacial surgery, studying with the world’s leading craniofacial surgeon in France.

Board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Sargent joined The Plastic Surgery Group in 1987. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Pediatrics and multiple prestigious plastic surgery professional societies.

Fellow Plastic Surgery Group partner Dr. Mark Brzezienski also attended this year’s American Association of Plastic Surgeons meeting in Scottsdale, Ariz., along with PSG resident Dr. Jeffrey Rau. In addition to Drs. Sargent and Brzezienski, The Plastic Surgery Group includes Dr. Woody Kennedy, Dr. Jason Rehm and Dr. Jimmy Waldrop.
