A kitchen fire late Monday afternoon has resulted in one woman being sent to the hospital. The Chattanooga Fire Department received the alarm at 4:51 p.m. and responded to 2161 Shepherd Road with several fire companies.

Battalion Chief Jeff Eldridge said the firefighters attacked the fire quickly, getting the fire under control within five to 10 minutes. Most of the fire damage was contained to the kitchen and living room.

One resident, described as a 38-year-old woman, was transported by Hamilton County EMS to Erlanger Medical Center after she complained of difficulty breathing. Chief Eldridge said the woman may have been suffering from smoke inhalation.
