Dalton State Women’s Golf Coach Jim McGrew has signed a proven winner to continue her education and career at Dalton State.

“I love the golf program and the school,” said Vidalia High graduate Katie Dalton.

“We are extremely excited to add Katie to our program,” said McGrew. “She was a highly decorated player coming out of high school having won two state titles, and was one of the top recruits in her class.”

Dalton played her freshman season with National Junior College Athletic Association champions Seminole State (Fla.), the same school that produced Roadrunner golfers Julia McQuilken and Erika Wardzinski.

“Spending a year at Seminole State as part of a national championship team that has really been good to us further strengthens her resume,” said McGrew. “Katie is the type of player that will come in and immediately make an impact for our program. Adding a player with her reputation and ability speaks volumes in terms of what our current players have been able to establish in terms of creating a championship program that attracts top players.

The nursing major was on the dean’s list at Seminole State with a 3.7 GPA.

Her exceptional high school career included being on the AA All-State team during each of her four years. The Indians captured three state championships during that period.

Dalton was state tournament runner-up during her freshman and sophomore seasons and was state medalist during her junior and senior years. In addition to Seminole State, she was recruited by a number of schools including Mercer, Furman, Wake Forest and Georgia State Universities.

McQuilken was the 2015 NAIA championship tournament medalist as the Southern States Athletics Conference champions finished tied for second in the nation. Caroline Griffin was conference freshman of the year and SSAC Championship medalist. It was the first year for women’s golf at Dalton State.

Roadrunner teams practice at The Farm and at Dalton Golf and Country Club. Dalton had the opportunity to play The Farm during her campus visit. Katie is the daughter of Joelle and Richard Dalton of Vidalia.
