Chattanooga Representatives Chosen For 2016 Miss Tennessee Pageant

Caty Davis, Meredith Maroney and Lexie Perry will be the Chattanooga area representatives at the 2016 Miss Tennessee Pageant after winning the Scenic City local preliminaries on Saturday evening at Chattanooga State Humanities Theatre.

Miss Davis and Miss Maroney, both of Knoxville and students at the University of Tennessee won the Chattanooga and Tennessee Valley titles respectively and Miss Perry, an incoming freshman at the University of Tennessee at Martin and Dresden resident was named Miss Scenic City.  Eighteen contestants participated in the pageant which is open statewide and is the program that has also produced three of the last four Miss Tennessee titleholders including the recently crowned Hannah Robison who won the state crown last month.

The pageant opened with a tribute to the five servicemen who died last week at the Naval Operations Center located less than a mile from the Amnicola Highway campus. 

Miss Davis won the Talent Award for her rendition of the late Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing” from the film The Bodyguard. She is a junior majoring in Business Administration and is involved with the Knoxville Boxer Rescue. A member of Kappa Delta sorority, her platform is Addiction Doesn’t Define Me: Empowering Families Affected by Substance Abuse.

Miss Maroney, a sophomore majoring in Journalism, Electronic Media and Hispanic Studies, sang “Somewhere” for her talent presentation. She is heavily involved with fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of her grandmother who died from the disease.

Miss Perry, who is hearing impaired, performed a medley of “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” and the “Orange Blossom Special” on the violin for her talent.  The incoming freshman at the University of Tennessee at Martin won the Interview Award.  She was the 2014 Miss Tennessee’s Outstanding Teen and was the first runner-up at Miss America’s Outstanding Teen last August which was the highest finish ever for a Tennessee representative. 

The Chattanooga runners-up were local residents Mary Allyson McGinnis and Ashley Broockman.  Miss McGinnis is a sophomore at Belmont University and Miss Broockman is a UT-Chattanooga graduate and a Verizon Wireless sales representative.

Peyton Wilson and MaryBeth Arnett were the Scenic City alternates and Brianna Mason and Birchwood’s Rachel Holder were the Tennessee Valley runners.
