Governor's Council Extends Application Deadline For Vacancy In 9th Judicial District

  • Tuesday, September 1, 2015

The Governor’s Council for Judicial Appointments has extended the deadline for applications for the Criminal Court judge vacancy in the 9th Judicial District – Loudon, Meigs, Morgan, and Roane counties. The impending vacancy has been created by Judge E. Eugene Eblen’s announcement that he is retiring effective Dec. 31.

The council received two applications for the opening. According to Governor Bill Haslam’s Executive Order No. 41, which governs the council, three names are to be submitted to the governor for his consideration. Typically, the council interviews more than three candidates and narrows it to three for the governor’s consideration.

Any interested applicant must be a licensed attorney who is at least 30 years of age, a resident of the state for five years, and a resident of the 9th Judicial District. Any attorney interested in being considered for the vacancy must complete the designated application, which is available at www.TNCourts.gov, and submit it to the Administrative Office of the Courts by noon EDT on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

The Governor’s Council for Judicial Appointments will interview all qualified applicants in the district starting at 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 25 in the Raider Room at Roane State Community College in Harriman. The meeting will include a public hearing, during which members of the public may express any objections to any applicant. The interview and public hearing will be open to the public.
