Retired From The Chattanooga Police Department After 37 Years

Frank Newson, 78, died on Wednesday, September 9, 2015. 

He was born July 4, 1937 in Chattanooga, to the late Ida Lee and John Newson, Jr.

Frank retired from the Chattanooga Police Department of 37 years where he was the first lieutenant of the narcotics department, worked for the Erlanger security department for 10 years, he was a licensed funeral director, member of the Elks Lounge 440, member of the F.O.P., and was vice president of Howard class of 1956. Frank was a faithful member of Olivet Baptist Church. He loved to fish, hunt, and cook. 

He was preceded in death by both parents, two sons, Ronnie Smith and Tracey, and two brothers, John and Richard Newson.

He is survived by his children, Phyllis Maples, Kenneth Rivers, Cassandra Jefferson, Tony Spencer, Kimberly Rowe, Kenneth Lloyd (devoted daughter-in-law, Maria), Deangelo Newson, Donnella Craig (Clifford), LaShaun Pope, Perry Herman, Alexis Newson, Ebony Sanford, Charles Underwood, devoted daughter in-law Debbie Newson; three sisters Vickie, Jackie, Joshalyn; devoted cousin, William Fayen; devoted grandchildren, Marquilia Putman (Curtis) and Deangelo Frank Newson, Jr. (Amanda); and a host of grandchildren, nieces, and nephew; devoted friends, Lee Mosley Jr, Tommy Winston, and long-time companion Pamela McClure.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 14, at Olivet Baptist Church, at 740 E. M. L. King Blvd, with Bishop Elect Kevin Adams officiating. Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The body will lie in state on Sunday, Sept. 13, and the family will receive friends from 6–7 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
