Single Moms Night Of Encouragement Will Be Oct. 2

The Maclellan Foundation along with five other local ministries that minister to women are hosting a Single Moms Night of Encouragement in Chattanooga on Friday, Oct. 2Jennifer Maggio, author, speaker and chief executive officer of The Life of a Single Mom will be the speaker.  Her personal journey through homelessness, abuse, and multiple teen pregnancies is leaving audiences around the globe riveted. The Life of a Single Mom is a global, award-winning, organization committed to seeing no single mom walk alone.

Here are some statistics:

- 50% of babies are born outside of marriage

- 78% of the current prison population was raised by a single mother

- 90% of all homeless and runaway children come from single parent homes

Children of single parent homes are:

- 10 times more likely to abuse drugs

- 5 times more likely to commit suicide

- 10 times more likely to drop out of school

The event is open to all single moms for a night of encouragement.  It will be held at The Vine at First Centenary UMC on Friday, Oct. 2, from 6:30-8 p.m. Dinner and childcare will be provided. The event is free but space is limited so reservations are requested.

The five co-sponsors of the event will have booths set-up to help encourage single moms. These ministries include:  Bethany Christian Services, Choices Pregnancy Resource Center, Hope Unlimited Ministries, Chattanooga Room in the Inn, Scenic City Women’s Network and The MoMentum Network 

Jennifer Maggio is an author of four books and a speaker, whose personal journey through homelessness, abuse, and multiple teen pregnancies is leaving audiences around the globe riveted. At 19, Ms. Maggio had two children. She shares with great openness her pain, mistakes, and journey to find hope in Christ. She ultimately became an 11-time Circle of Excellence winner in Corporate America and founded the global nonprofit The Life of a Single Mom (TLSM). Today, TLSM has served more than 46,000 single moms in 1,500 cities worldwide.

TLSM is a national nonprofit organization that exists to serve single parents and those who work with single parents. They have been recognized for their expansive work in several media venues including Focus on the Family.
