Man Dies From Injuries Suffered In Fall Into Culvert By TVA Building

  • Tuesday, September 22, 2015

The man who was critically injured on Monday after falling approximately 20 feet into a culvert at the TVA office building on 12th Street has died.

Investigator Taylor Walker with the Chattanooga Police Department said the victim has been identified as Edward Morgan. He was 63.

Eyewitnesses told Investigator Walker that shortly before noon yesterday, Mr. Morgan was attempting to slide a metal grate a few inches from a wall in order to paint the building, but accidentally pulled the grate too far, causing it to fall into the culvert.

Mr. Morgan’s fingers were reportedly stuck in the grate, causing him to also fall in the culvert. Mr. Morgan was critically injured in the fall and succumbed to his injuries at Erlanger Hospital.

This incident is pending the findings from the Hamilton County Medical Examiner’s Office. TOSHA will also be investigating the incident. Mr. Morgan was an employee of TBM (Total Building Maintenance), which was doing contract maintenance work for TVA.
