Review for Rik Palieri and Rick Nestler:

Old friends Rik Palieri and Rick Nestler, proponents of the Hudson River School of Folk Music, take the stage as a duo with songs, both old and new, familiar and obscure, and from poignant to inspiring.  Playing individually and together in various combinations on guitars, banjos, Native American flute, Ozark Mouth bow and autoharp, there will be plenty of chances for singing along, foot tapping, knee slapping, and belly laughing.

With personal mentors like Pete Seeger and U Utah Phillips, the RIX can’t help but create an atmosphere of not only fun but also tap into a rare glimpse of a part of American folklore that is slowly disappearing. Among the many programs they have presented, they have developed one in particular of interest for the Great Hudson River Revival, performing Songs of the Almanac Singers, the group Pete Seeger belonged to (along with Woody Guthrie, Lee Hayes and Millard Lampell) before the Weavers. Sea shanties, sod buster ballads and labor songs are all combined into a heady mix from the Almanac repertoire that is a pure joy to both listen to and perform. These travelers learned from the masters, they are from the true vine.

Grammy winner, Rick Nestler is probably most well known as the writer of the unofficial anthem of the Hudson River, The River That Flows Both Ways which was recorded by Pete Seeger on Pete’s Grammy nominated album, Family Concert, and on The Grammy winning, CD Tomorrow‘s Children, wherein he was also featured as a performer. Rick performs on six and 12 string guitar, tenor banjo, and autoharp. He has appeared at folk festivals and coffeehouses across the U.S. and internationally in Australia, Bermuda, Canada and the Virgin Islands. He has presented programs at many museums, including Bethel Woods Museum, The Hudson River Museum, The Hudson River Maritime Center, Mystic Seaport and South Street Seaport Museum. Rick has seven albums to his credit.

Grammy nominee, Totem Pole, Rik Palieri is a talented singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, TV host, storyteller and a member of The Mythical Order of The Rose Tattoo, who lives a musical life to the fullest. He is a very energetic performer who captivates audiences of all ages with his stories and songs. In a typical performance Rik will sing an old ballad with a longneck banjo, stomp out a Leadbelly style blues on the guitar, spin out a wild and wooly story  of his travels, pluck out a tune on the Ozark mouth bow, blow a mournful melody on the Native American flute and end the evening with an original Yodel-sing-a-long. Rik is also the host of The Song Writer's Notebook on VCAM-TV and archived at The Library of  Congress. Rik has performed at concert halls, museums, schools and festivals throughout all 50 states, toured Alaska by float plane, ridden camelback in Australia and sung on trains throughout Europe.
